11th District Congress: Resolution on Corus |
Congress condemns the threatened mothballing of the Recar Corus steel plant and the unbridled free market conditions which have led to this situation.
While the consortium of fleeing buyers of the plant’s output should be held to account for reneging on the deal, Tata is also to blame for using the Corus workers as pawns in its billion-pound asset-stripping exercise.
Steel is vital to any advanced economy, and the plant risks never opening again if it si mothballed. Congress supports the tradeunion-led campaign to keep the plant open but calls for the labour movement to exert pressure on the government to nationalise the plant and to provide it with orders as part of an infrastructure programme to boost the economy.
